*The scholarship is given in remembrance of Rhoda Garoogian who served as
Assistant Dean and later as Acting Dean (1989-1991) at a critical juncture
in the program's history. Enrollment had dropped below 100 students and
the School had been downgraded to a department. Library schools were
closing nationwide at a rapid rate. In her brief two years, Rhoda doubled
enrollment and reestablished SILS as a School. But Rhoda is most
remembered for her many acts of kindness, accessibility, and dedication to
students. Our Scholarship is given in her spirit that is so much a part of
the SILS tradition.
