*The scholarship is given in remembrance of Rhoda Garoogian who served asAssistant Dean and later as Acting Dean (1989-1991) at a critical juncturein the program's history. Enrollment had dropped below 100 students andthe School had been downgraded to a department. Library schools wereclosing nationwide at a rapid rate. In her brief two years, Rhoda doubledenrollment and reestablished SILS as a School. But Rhoda is mostremembered for her many acts of kindness, accessibility, and dedication tostudents. Our Scholarship is given in her spirit that is so much a part ofthe SILS tradition.
